Random pic, I know - this is a photo of a photo that I have in my cubicle. It's from Valentine's Day 2004 with Karen. It makes me happy.
What a crazy few days I've had this week! For some reason, I feel really unnerved - not sure if that's driven by job stress or continued annoyance with That One Guy (I hate when I'm annoyed and then have no resolution with the person, because then the annoyance just lingers like a gaping wound...), but goodness, I have not been the At-Peace Annie of a week or two ago.
My guess is that it's that whole "opposition in all things" idea at work. Conference weekend was too blissful - this week has to make up for it.
Anyhow, I feel so popular! I've been tagged by not one but two fellow bloggers - so I'll do all the tiggety-tagging responses in one tidy post.
First, Kellie tagged me with this list of eights:
8 Favorite TV shows - this is a toughie, since I'm not a big TV watcher...
1. The Office!!!
2. Heroes
3. Veronica Mars
4. Arrested Development
5. Friends
6. Scrubs
7. Good Eats with Alton Brown or other fun Food TV shows
8. Pretty much anything on Turner Classic Movies
8 Favorite Restaurants...
1. Taco Mesa (inventive fresh-Mex chain in Orange County)
2. Cheesecake Factory
3. Corner Bakery
4. Cafe Rio (I soooo miss it!!!)
5. Does In-N-Out qualify as a restaurant?
6. Outback Steakhouse
7. Bistro Aix in San Francisco (just give me their chocolate cake - it's PHENOMENAL!!!)
8. Bad to the Bone BBQ, San Juan Capistrano
8 things that happened yesterday... (It's been kind of a mundane week, and I don't have cute kids doing silly things - my apologies if these are lame)
1. We had a Maples Digital Media Group team meeting at work, which meant that our design team came in from Anaheim. This was fun because the creative director is also the guy for whom I used to babysit - whose brother is one of my buddies. Yesterday was the first time we sat next to each other at the meeting, and it was like total flashbacks of sitting with his brother in Ward Council a few years ago, cracking jokes here and there. Totally made the meeting more fun.
2. I read lots of blogs. I do this every day. It's addicting.
3. Ooooh! I was really, really craving
my favorite garlic shrimp casserole, so I made it for the first time. This took trips to two stores to get all the ingredients, but it was worth it. My methods need some refining, but for a first attempt, it was a winner. I used brown rice and added frozen asparagus. Yum. And I have it all to myself, which means lunch today for me! Yay!
4. I got into a tiff with my roommate about whether or not the garbage can lid belongs in the kitchen sink. She put it there a week ago because she thought it needed cleaning - but didn't want to be the one to clean it, so there it remained, with my roommate hoping one of the others of us would get the hint. I cleaned it after doing the dishes, but I adamantly think that something which covers a bag of rotting food should be set in the sink where we prepare food. So I also thoroughly disinfected the general sink vicinity and pressed my roommate to never, EVER put the lid in the sink again!!! Gross!!! But she refused to concede, so we're deadlocked. (Roommate #3 agreed with me, at least.) I love my roommates - I really do. But it's moments like this that I look forward to a home of my own.
5. Tuesdays are "Business Watch" days for me, when I work on my column for Friday's paper. I needed some new material, so I drove around to a couple of really cool new businesses - an
indoor BMX ramp park and store in Lake Forest, and a
supercool video gaming destination in Ladera Ranch. Like, so cool that I totally want to go there on a date and play video games. Which is nothing short of a miracle, because this is
me we're talking about. I don't play video games. Like, ever. So that's definitely saying something about the awesomeness of Game On.
6. I spent most of my workday working on elements to improve
our company's Web site. If you want to see the
in-process site, click here. I get really excited when I find changes. Hopefully the site will be ready to roll next week.
7. To help storyboard our capabilities presentation, I drew the concepts from the whiteboard in Paint to add to a PowerPoint. It brought back childhood memories of playing in drawing programs. I'll spare you the pathetic pictures, but needless to say, there's a good reason why I'm a writer, not a graphic designer.
8. And, last but not least, I caught a little bit of the new
90210. I think this could be a new addiction. Suzette also got us watching
Lincoln Heights, too. Pretty good.
8 things to look forward to..
1. Meeting and marrying The One. He's going to be pretty danged amazing if I deem him worthy company for time and all eternity. Although I'm sure there will be times when I feel like strangling the poor sap. Seriously, Heavenly Father had quite the sense of humor when He made men and women so danged different - and yet we need one another. It's an eternal learning process.
2. Creating a wonderful, solid family.
3. Finally going to some of the places I've always wanted to see, like Manhattan, Washington D.C. or Europe.
4. Seeing all three of my high school besties in November!!!
5. Going to Disneyland tomorrow with my friends.
6. Spending Saturday in San Diego - I've been in desperate need of a Del day.
7. Finishing this never-ending Web site project. I can't wait to see the end product!
8. Retiring someday in favor of being a full-time mom. That will seriously be one of the happiest days of my life! I love, love, love my job, but I know there are things of such greater consequence out there - all in time...
8
things I love about Fall..
1. The autumn color palette - so warm and rich!
2. Piling on the blankets at night
3. Thanksgiving - my favorite holiday
4. Fall foods - I am such a sucker for pumpkin stuff and cranberry stuff. And, oh, my favorite stuffing I make every year - yum! I can't wait to get a slice of the pumpkin-pecan cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory - mmmmm...
5. Sweaters
6. Colorful leaves - what we get here is such a paltry imitation of what other places get, I know, but I do like seeing the golden leaves.
7. The energy that comes - it's such a new beginning!
8. Halloween fun, especially the annual Hitchcock movie with my friends
8
things on my wishlist...
1. A tall, dark, handsome and brilliant man, preferably with blue eyes. I dig those baby blues.
2. Some John Wayne DVDs - preferably
Stagecoach or
Without Reservation. My collection is sadly lacking The Duke.
3. A cast-iron skillet so I can make some blackened catfish
4. Some more free time!!!
5. Voice lessons
6. Dance lessons - preferably jazz and tap
7. A sewing machine
8. John Krasinski
And then Missy tagged me with
six quirks - these were hard to think of!
1. I don't drink plain milk. I'll drink chocolate milk and eat ice cream 'til the cows come home (pun intended, teehee), but I don't drink milk by itself. I had milk with cereal for the first time this summer, and it was okay (i.e. didn't make me gag), but other attempts to drink milk have always failed (i.e. hugging porcelain).
2. My nervous habit involves playing with my jewelry - tugging at my earrings, playing with a necklace.
3. Every morning my routine involves stopping at Ralph's for a Diet Pepsi from their deli counter. I've become pretty friendly with the deli manager, Monica. She's really sweet. I love hearing about what her kids are up to.
4. I have a very set bedtime routine that involves an eye mask, certain playlists from my iPod, some linen spray and my teddy bear. I'm able to survive without all of this while traveling, mind you, but when at home, that's what I do. And I'm trying to enjoy it as long as I can, because somehow I'm guessing a husband won't go for being serenaded each night by Peter Gabriel or Nick Lachey.
5. I don't hardly ever buy bread. I know it's a staple for the rest of the world, but I don't ever eat it fast enough, so I don't waste the money anymore. I do, however, have a small arsenal of soup in the pantry year-round.
6. I hate driving with my shoes on. If I'm in flipflops, flats or heels, I'll usually kick them off and drive barefoot.
Okay, tagging time... I pick Tabitha, Liz, Rebecca, Heather, Jeremiah, Stacy, Brittny and Hayley!
