Birthday Boy

Today was the birthday of one of my favorite guys on the planet - and I got to celebrate with him! Nothing fancy - we took a little walk, shared some dinner (rice and beans from Baja Fish Tacos with some chicken - yum!), cuddled a little while watching Alias. Good times.

In the Birthday Boy's honor, here are some reasons why I absolutely adore this fella:

• He's so smart!
• Whenever I walk into the room, he leaps up to greet me, showering me with kisses and affection. It always makes me feel like a million bucks.
• He's got just the greatest smile. It always lights up my day!
• I think he likes chocolate even more than I do - as if such a thing were possible!
• He's so fiercely loyal and devoted.
• His fashion sense is impeccable - but he was born with it. If only we could all look so good so effortlessly!
• He is such a cuddler! I love snuggling with him - he especially loves backrubs and head massages.
• I love his companionship! From the time we met six years ago, I knew we'd be buds for the long haul. He's a little neurotic and uptight sometimes, but it makes me love him all the more.

What can I say? He is this woman's best friend.



Happy sixth birthday, Sheppy! I'll love you forever and ever. Here's to many more years of fun together!

Share-a-Pooch

I read the most interesting article in the Wall Street Journal about a new phenomenon: dog sharing. It's an ideal solution for people who want a pet but travel too often to make it feasible. The question is, is it tough on the dogs emotionally?

As a dog lover, I'm fascinated by the concept. I mean, I sort of already do this with my parents' dogs, Shep and Maisie. I adore them and am always happy to dogsit when my fam is gone. Heck, I've been known to drop by the house to see the dogs when I know the people are gone. The adoration is mutual, too. So would that be weird for them to be shared more? I don't think so, as long as there's a routine. Dogs are smarter than they get credit for, and they're a lot like children - establish a routine and stick to it, and you're good to go.

Speaking of puppy love, a California woman actually sold her home to raise $50,000 in order to clone puppies from her beloved, departed pit bull terrier, Booger. Now she's thrilled beyond belief to have five Booger clones, thanks to the folks at Seoul National University (the group responsible for Snuppy, the original cloned dog). I love dogs and all, but seriously? This crosses such a line to me. As much as I adore my pets, I think it's just wrong to place God's creative powers in the hands of science - especially with all the existing animals in need of good homes.

Of course, on the other hand, I'm sure people said that about in vitro and such scientific innovations at first, too. Thoughts?
